West Brom Player Ratings from 2-1 defeat v Swansea City

West Brom fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Baggies took the lead thanks to Karlan Grant’s sixth league goal of the season and held on despite increasing pressure from the Swans.

It was a lovely goal as West Brom carved Swansea apart, and Callum Robinson then squared the ball to Grant, who couldn’t miss from close range.

However, they couldn’t hang on and collapsed in the second half.

Here are the player ratings.

Sam Johnstone – 6

Very little to do but had to pick the ball out of his net twice.

Semi Ajayi – 4

Relatively strong in the air but looked very shaky once Swansea scored.

Kyle Bartley – 5

Pretty solid until Swansea scored and he fell apart, consistently beaten by the long ball straight down the middle.

Matt Clarke – 6

He makes a big difference to this West Brom side and was rock solid. He made a desperate attempt to stop the goal.

Darnell Furlong – 4

He managed to get forward a bit more than he has been able to in recent games but was at fault for the Swans’ winning goal.

Jake Livermore – 7 (Man of the Match)

This is more like it from Livermore, who displayed a good range of passing and produced a few driving runs. However, he should have scored in the first half and nearly scored in the second.

Jayson Molumby – 5

Handed his first start due to Alex Mowatt’s injury and his impressive cameo on Friday night but couldn’t really get into the game. Whenever he did get the ball it was always safety first.

Connor Townsend – 4

He was much quieter tonight than last week and struggled defensively.

Matt Phillips – 6

This was lively stuff from Phillips, who made an impact in attack and defence. He was involved in the first goal and nearly scored one himself.

Karlan Grant – 7

Once again, another important goal from the forward who is proving to be vital for the Baggies.

Callum Robinson – 7

A strong all-round display from the striker who picked up an assist with a clever pass and was just a livewire throughout.

Subs

He barely got the ball, but did nearly get an assist for Phillips.

Robert Snodgrass – 5 (79)

Made no difference.

Adam Reach – N/A (84)
