Chris Lepkowski fumes as West Brom fall to defeat at Swansea

West Brom crashed to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Swansea City on Wednesday evening in the Championship.

Despite the Baggies opening the scoring in the opening minute of the game, they were blown away in the second half and fell to defeat.

Chris Lepkowski was left fuming after the clash, and it was the Jamie Patterson goal that tipped him over the edge.

Writing on his personal Twitter account after that goal, Lepkowksi insisted that Valerien Ismael had to change his system before he was punished.

“A really cheap goal to concede,” he wrote.

“This is where a coach needs to be altering the shape, the role of certain players or just shoring things up if he feels the alternative options aren’t going to improve the side. These goals have been coming.”

Given the experience in that back three, the two goals conceded were nowhere near good enough at this level.

Kyle Bartley, Matt Clarke and Semi Ajayi were consistently done by the long ball against the Swans, and yet nothing ever changed.

Ismael had to slightly adapt his system and play slightly deeper, he didn’t do that, and it led to the Baggies throwing away another three points.

Is this something that could come back to haunt us in the long term?

Opposition clubs watching this game will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing us in the weeks to come and will be bombing those balls over the top.

Will Ismael learn? Time will tell, but he certainly needs to.
