Kevin Phillips blasts fan suggestions on Valerien Ismael after West Brom loss v Swansea
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has blasted West Brom supporters calling for Valerien Ismael’s sacking after the 2-1 defeat against Swansea.
There has been outrage at the Frenchman’s inability to change tactics during games, which has never been clearer as it was last night.
Phillips believes it is “crazy” for fans to suggest that, and urged them to get Ismael time to get his ideas onto the squad – who are sitting third in the Championship.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Phillips said, “I just praise him, I do understand the frustration.
“The consistency and all of that, but he’s new to the job and it’s crazy to even consider criticising him. You knew what you was getting when he came in, a new style of play – it wasn’t going to change from how he played at Barnsley.
“You stick by your guns, it takes a while. I can understand the frustration, but for fans to say he’s not the man for the job – they’re third in the league, sitting top for most of it. It’s just fickle supporters – it’s crazy.”

Crazy.
It always takes time to get to grips with a new manager and his new system.
Early success doesn’t mean that a squad is 100% firing and will easily walk through every single opponent they come across – that isn’t the case.
Some Baggies fans over on our West Brom News Facebook page have been calling for Ismael to be sacked, and it is still hard to imagine that.
We have to give someone time, no-one has been given that in far too long and the answer to everything can’t be sacking managers.
