Keith Hackett: FA may investigate West Brom v Bristol City after stoppages & delays
We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League & FIFA-listed referee Keith Hackett as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at West Brom...
Keith Hackett has insisted that the FA may investigate the West Brom victory over Bristol City and the delays in the game.
Two fans required medical attention at The Hawthorns, similar to the Newcastle game last week, with both halves being delayed.
Hackett believes officials may need to be taught the guidelines surrounding matters such as this, as they don’t affect anything on-field.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Hackett said, “I think that what has got to happen, there has to be clear guidelines in terms of these incidents.
“There’s no doubt that there are measures taken by stewards and security in the stadium that don’t interfere with what is going on in the field of play.
“I think they’re right the FA. I think, for me, it’s right that the FA investigate because the guidance to referees may well be to keep the game going and allow us to determine when the game is suspended or stopped.
“This is about the FA and the EFL saying this is the criteria in these circumstances, and revisit them.“

Tough one.
It is tough to say what the guidelines would suggest, especially when the health of an individual is clearly on the line.
The FA may mention that it doesn’t affect anything on the pitch and the game should continue, but if too serious, everything may need to be brought to a hold.
Hackett is likely right in suggesting that stewards and security will also be trained to deal with these situations, but only to a certain level.
There appeared to be no complaints over the game being delayed at the start and at half-time, and that is the common-sense thing to do.
