Neil Lennon wowed by Cedric Kipre in first half of West Brom v Hull City

Neil Lennon was impressed by Cedric Kipre’s range of passing for West Brom in the first half of their Championship clash against Hull City at The Hawthorns.

Kipre, 24, made just his third Championship appearance of the season for the Albion with Valerien Ismael naming him in his defence versus Hull with Kyle Bartley suspended.

It was a solid first half by the former Wigan centre-back, who sparked an opportunity to score when his cross-field pass found Conor Towsend on the left before his cross was headed wide by Matt Phillips.

“West Brom have been patient but the switches of play have been very, very good at times from the centre-halves, whether it be [Matt] Clarke or Kipre,” said Lennon on Sky Sports News on Wednesday night during the first half.

“There was one where Kipre’s switched the ball to Townsend – you’ll see it now.

“Kipre, beautiful switch of play. Townsend, touch, early cross in. Phillips gets across the defender, ball bounces, it’s a decent header but it’s just by the post.

“Really good football from West Brom, they’re not just relying on set-plays tonight by the looks of things.”

Time to shine for Cedric

Kipre’s got a lot to prove.

West Brom signed him from Wigan last summer, seemingly for the sake of it when the Latics were in administration and selling their prize assets for next to nothing.

Luke Dowling couldn’t resist wasting the money on signing Kipre, who cost around £1million and has since played just seven times in all competitions for the Baggies.

Kipre was sent out on loan to Charleroi in Belgium last January and since returning to The Hawthorns, he’s struggling for game-time in the Championship.

We do know that the ex-Motherwell man can perform in this league though as we’ve seen him play well for Wigan against the Baggies when both teams were in the Championship.

Ismael was kind of forced into playing the Frenchman on Wednesday night but it’s good to see him playing quite well and also making some attacks.

In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips has hit out at Adrian Durham after what he said about Ismael.
