Jonathan Greening: Alex Mowatt can score unbelievable goals
Jonathan Greening believes that Alex Mowatt can even get better, given his quick start to life at West Brom.
The midfielder did not extend his contract at Barnsley and instead decided to move to the Hawthorns to join Valerien Ismael’s side.
He’s recently been out of action with a foot injury, but when fit, has been one of the first names on the teamsheet for the former Barnsley boss.
Speaking about his impact to the side, Greening, a BBC pundit, said, “He dictates the pace of the game, he can switch play, he drives forward, he can score unbelievable goals, he’s got a wand of a left foot. I like him a lot.
“He went to Barnsley and did really well there, so for West Brom to get him for no money whatsoever was one of the best signings of the summer for me, without a shadow of a doubt.
“He’s a great signing, not just for the here and now, but for the next few years for the football club.”
The Baggies had a decent squad last season under Sam Allardyce, especially in the middle of the park.
However, most of them were on loan and would not have fancied a move back to the Hawthorns in the Championship.
This left new manager Ismael with plenty of problems, but Mowatt has come in and eased his fears.
However, his injuries are something to be concerned about, but apart from that, he’s a player who’s only going to get better in the future.
Hopefully, the Baggies manage to get promoted and if they do, he’s going to be playing a key role in guiding them there.
