Tottenham want West Brom star Sam Johnstone as Hugo Lloris replacement
Tottenham have lined up West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone to take over from Hugo Lloris, according to Sportsmail.
The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of the season and the North Londoners are yet to open talks over a new deal
With Lloris, 34, now likely to leave after nine years at the club, Spurs have stepped up their search for a new goalie, and they want the Baggies ace, 28, as a replacement.
It is looking increasingly likely that Johnstone will not be at The Hawthorns beyond the end of the current season, regardless of which division the club are in next term.
He is also yet to put pen to paper on an extension and is solely in control of his future.
Playing under Antonio Conte at Spurs is definitely more attractive than playing under Valerien Ismael, even if promotion is secured.
West Brom will be looking to stay up while two-time UEFA Cup/Europa League winners Tottenham will be looking to win silverware and secure a top-four finish.
Failure to get back straight up will all but end West Brom’s slim chances of retaining the England international, and they need to avoid that.
Johnstone would love to join a club where he is guaranteed the starting berth, which could be available at Spurs.
Lloris is a Tottenham hero after spending almost a decade in goal for them, but it could be time for both parties to go their separate ways, and his West Brom counterpart will fancy his chances of proving himself as the Frenchman’s perfect successor.
