We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips is delighted to hear that West Brom have tied Conor Townsend down to a new, long-term contract.
Townsend, 28, signed fresh terms on a deal last week [The Athletic] that will keep him at the club until 2025.
It’s his second extension of the year and it will see his salary increase after a positive start to the season for Albion.
Former Baggies centre-forward Phillips believes Towsend has earned his new contract.
Super Kev told West Brom News: “He’s a good, consistent player who has certainly proven that he is good enough for the Championship, and he did well in the Premier League.
“From my point of view, it’s good that they’ve tied him down to a decent contract and they don’t have to worry about him now moving forward, they can concentrate on someone else.
“[It’s a] good bit of news, [a] good bit of business from West Brom’s point of view.”
Towsend has played all 19 of West Brom’s Championship games so far this season, supplying two assists.
Traditionally a left-back, he has been used at left wing-back and at left centre-back by Valerien Ismael during the current campaign.
