Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis on West Brom transfer radar ahead of January

Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis is someone who West Brom may move for January, according to The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley.

Davis, 23, has played just once for Villa in the Premier League this season and he’s recently emerged on the radar of Norwich’s new manager Dean Smith [Football Insider].

When asked in a Q&A on The Athletic website about which strikers Albion should sign in January, Madeley revealed that he’s heard whispers about a possible move for Davis.

“Honest answer is, I don’t know,” said Madeley, when asked to suggest strikers signings for January.

“It’s hard to know who is available, who would be interested in signing and who Albion could afford.

“I’ve heard Keinan Davis at Villa mentioned, and that sounds like a pretty sensible suggestion.”

Good enough?

Albion’s attack has been misfiring for most of the season.

Four teams have outscored the Baggies in the Championship this term while stats by FBRef show that only 30.3 per cent of shots by Valerien Ismael’s men have hit the target – only five teams have a lower shot-on-target percentage.

Karlan Grant’s eight goals make him West Brom’s highest goalscorer this term but the ex-Huddersfield man seems to prefer playing out on the left and cutting inside – which can also be said of Callum Robinson and Grady Diangana.

Jordan Hugill and Kenneth Zohore are the only two out-and-out strikers among Ismael’s senior options but neither of them can hit a barn door with a banjo and it’s unlikely either of them have long-term futures at The Hawthorns.

As for Davis, he’s hardly a goalscorer when you look at his stats at Aston Villa with the Stevenage-born striker netting just six in 86 appearances across all competitions for the Villans.

However, most of his appearances have been as a substitute and at the age of 23, he’s someone who could have a long-term future in the Black Country should he make the move in January.

According to Football Insider, Villa could sell Davis for anything between £2million and £4million in January.

West Brom only signed loanees and free agents in the summer so it remains to be seen whether Ismael will have the budget to buy players for transfer fees.

And while some fans may have concerns about signing a goal-shy striker from a bitter rival, there’s no way Davis can be worse than what we’ve currently got.
