West Brom keen to sign Dwight Gayle - report
West Brom are keen to sign Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle in the January transfer window, according to reports from The Telegraph.
The 32-year-old striker has not started a single Premier League game this season for the Magpies.
He will be made available on loan in January. The Baggies are looking to bring him to the Hawthorns, while Nottingham Forest are also interested.
Gayle would be a fantastic signing for West Brom in January.
The Baggies can sign him on loan, and there will be an option to buy him depending on promotion from the Championship.
He is a vastly experienced striker who has managed 144 career goals, and would help bolster West Brom’s attack.
The Baggies are fourth in the table with 34 points, and the signing of Gayle could help them climb up the table if he recaptures his old form.
Back in 2018-19, Gayle managed 24 goals in 41 games for West Brom on loan from Newcastle and helped them achieve promotion.
Can he do that again?
Gayle has always found it easy to score in the Championships, but he has struggled to replicate that form in the Premier League, throughout his career.
His teammates rate him highly, with Jonjo Shelvey hailing him as an “unreal” player.
His match-fitness could be an issue, though, but it is worth taking a gamble.
In other West Brom news, Phillips is baffled by this “farcical” announcement about a Baggies player.
