Eddie Howe speaks out about West Brom target Dwight Gayle
Eddie Howe claims that West Brom target Dwight Gayle has an important role to play for Newcastle United.
The Telegraph claim that the Baggies want to take the 32-year-old back to the Hawthorns in January.
However, it seems as if Gayle could well stay and could help the Toon in their battle to stay in the Premier League.
Speaking before the Magpies host Burnley [Evening Chronicle, 03 December], Howe said: “What I have seen is someone who can certainly score goals, is a brilliant finisher.
“I think he’s got real competition because I think Callum (Wilson) and Dwight are very similar players, in a sense that they both lead the line.
“So Dwight will have an important role.”
Not what Baggies fans wanted to hear.
Well, this is probably not what Albion supporters wanted to hear from Howe.
Now, he was hardly ever going to come out and say that he has no plans for Gayle and that he could leave.
But, this was a pretty decisive answer from the new Toon boss, and it appears as if he thinks Gayle can come good and help Newcastle.
From a West Brom point of view, you have to hope that Gayle decides to push for a move if he still isn’t getting the game time.
He has only featured for 96 minutes in all competitions this season, so he is a bit of an outcast.
He has a sublime Championship goalscoring record, and if he were to join the Baggies, he could be the man to get them the goals they crave.
However, after this latest line from Howe, we aren’t sure Albion will sign him, which would be a blow.
In other West Brom news, Steve Madeley has issued a concerning claim on the Baggies’ budget.
