Journalist shares West Brom stance on Folarin Balogun after Arsenal grant striker January loan

West Brom are unlikely to make an imminent move for Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun, according to Alan Nixon.

David Ornstein, writing for The Athletic on Monday morning (6 December), claims the 20-year-old England Under-21 international will be allowed to leave the Gunners on loan during the January transfer window.

Nixon, a journalist at The Sun, added via his personal Twitter profile that Bournemouth were among the clubs chasing the New York-born attacker’s signature.

However, he has poured cold water on West Brom making any attempts to sign him in the near future.

When asked on Twitter whether the Baggies were looking at him, Nixon replied: “Not at this point.”

Get him, Albion

Arsenal’s decision to grant Balogun a loan move is sure to pique the interest of most Championship clubs, and possibly a few in the Premier League.

He’s only made 15 appearances for the Gunners, scoring five goals, but his exploits at youth level have wowed onlookers up and down the country and across Europe.

Balogun is the top scorer in the Premier League 2 this season with 14 goals in 10 games, two more than his nearest competitor [Norwich City’s Thomas Dickson-Peters has 12].

However, with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette ahead of him in the pecking order, it looks like a mid-season move is on the agenda, and the Championship looks like the obvious destination.

Evidently, West Brom need a striker, and as one of the leading teams in the division, and a club where Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles impressed last season, they should be at the front of the queue.

Of course, whether he fits into Valerien Ismael’s style of play is another question – Balogun is 5ft10in and not as powerful as, say, Jordan Hugill, or Orlando City’s Daryl Dike – but he is a prolific goalscorer, and that’s what the Baggies need.

Nixon hasn’t totally ruled a move out, suggesting there’s just no inclination of an imminent move, so it could be one to watch over the next month or so.
