Keinan Davis open to Aston Villa loan exit amid West Brom speculation

By Mark Murphy

It was recently reported by The Athletic’s Steve Madeley that Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis is a name he’s heard mentioned at West Brom ahead of January. Originally, Davis, 23 was set to leave Villa Park on a loan move last summer. However, an injury prevented that.

Recently Davis spoke on The Beautiful Game Podcast of his desire to get more games. He stated that he would be open to a loan move in January should the club approve his wishes.

Adding to that, Davis stated, “For a player like me, I’m still young. I’m trying to find my way. Going down to the Championship, I wouldn’t see that as a step back at all.”

It’s understood that a striker is where West Brom are prioritising in the upcoming January window [Express & Star’s Baggies Broadcast]. Whilst Davis may not be the most proven or exciting option for the Baggies, he certainly still could well be a useful addition.

What Davis could offer, should he move to the Hawthorns is hunger and desire for minutes. So far this season for Villa he has played once in the Premier League. He’s shown promise at times too for Aston Villa but doesn’t quite look the finished article.

A move down to the Championship could give his career a much-needed boost. Considering he is more than willing to make that step down, it implies the striker has a very good attitude.

Also, Davis has the traits that could cause big problems for Championship defences. Firstly, Davis is a strong guy and in a league like that, you’ll need that physicality against a lot of the teams in there. Secondly, the forward is also deceivingly quick. This could prove to be a nightmare for the opposition as it’s not very often you get the combination of strength and speed in a striker.

Granted it is potentially a gamble as Davis hasn’t scored too many goals in the Championship. Adding to that he may be slightly rusty, due to a lack of minutes at Villa. On the contrary, it does seem that Davis has a great attitude, as well as craving more minutes.

He’ll want to impress and make a case he could be a future asset to Villa. A strong outing for one of the best sides in the Championship would certainly be a way to do it.

Should Davis get his wish to go out on loan, West Brom should keep an eye out. Despite lack of Championship experience he has strength and speed which could cause issues for Championship defences. To add to that, he wants to play more minutes and is not put off by stepping a league down to do so.
