Carlos Carvalhal has been discussed by West Brom in recent months

Braga manager Carlos Carvalhal has been discussed by West Brom in recent months but is under contract until the end of the season, according to the Daily Mail.

The 56-year-old Portuguese, formerly of Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City, has a release clause set at around £8.5million, and it appears that dissuaded the Baggies and Norwich City.

Brazilian giants Flamengo are willing to meet that clause, though, after sacking Renato Gaucho, and his English admirers may have to look elsewhere.

Valerien Ismael in trouble?

West Brom only handed the Frenchman the reins in the summer, but it appears that are already looking out for his replacements.

The Hawthorns outfit started the campaign well, but recent struggles have seen them drop out of the top-two, with six points now between them and the automatic promotion places.

Ismael can still lead his side to the Premier League at the end of the campaign, but it seems the board will not hesitate to part ways with him if things get worse.

Carvalhal guided Braga to the Europa League qualification last term and also won the Taça de Portugal with them.

He could be keen to return to England, but that may have to wait till the summer when he will be free to sign for another club.

West Brom could do with such a manager without a doubt, but they will be looking to back Ismael during the January transfer window first.

The former Barnsley boss will hope to be second time lucky this season after reaching the promotion play-offs last term, but he will need to improve the results going forward to hold on to his position and keep Albion’s promotion chances alive.
