Kevin Phillips wants West Brom to sign Daryl Dike amid reported discussions
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips wants West Brom to push the boat out to sign USA striker Daryl Dike next month.
According to former Birmingham Mail journalist Chris Lepkowski on The Liquidator podcast this week, there have been discussions about a January swoop to sign Dike, 21, from Orlando City now the MLS season is over.
Albion have made hard work of scoring goals in recent months and Phillips feels as though the former Barnsley loan star could help boost Valerien Ismael’s promotion bid at The Hawthorns.

Speaking to West Brom News, Phillips said: “It just depends on the figures. For me, it’s clearly still an area that needs to be addressed and it’s always handy when you could possibly get a player who can cost you a bit more that knows the manager.
“We’ve seen that with [Alex] Mowatt as he’s come in and settled straight away, he hit the ground running so I think it helps when you know the manager, you know the style and you know what he’s after.
“Maybe Dike could be a really good option.

“It might be a bit more costly but, then again, it might be a worthwhile deal to get a player in who’ll score the goals to get you into the Premier League.
“He could well suit West Brom.”
Dike scored 11 goals in 19 MLS appearances for Orlando City in the 2020 season after re-joining them halfway through the campaign.
At Barnsley, he scored nine goals in 19 Championship outings in the second half of last season while he was on loan at Oakwell.

Dike also made his debut for the USA national team in February 2021 and has now earned eight caps, scoring three goals.
It’s been an impressive 2021 for the Oklahoma-born striker and there’s no doubt he would serve as an improvement upon Jordan Hugill and Kenneth Zohore should he swap the Sunshine State for the Black Country in the new year.
In other West Brom news, Albion could move to sign this £4million-rated player in the January transfer window.
