Sam Johnstone set to leave West Brom in May – Steve Madeley
West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is set to leave The Hawthorns in May next year, according to Steve Madeley.
The Athletic journalist did admit that the Baggies would sell their main stopper in the January window, but only if the right offer came in.
Johnstone’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and with nothing signed, next month is the last period to earn any money through a sale.

Writing in his transfer mailbag for The Athletic, Madeley shared the latest state of play which looks as though Johnstone is staying put, for now.
“I really don’t think that’s the case,” he said. “Which is not to say they wouldn’t sell if the right offer came in but I don’t think they have any wish to lose him, nor do I think they’re likely to receive the kind of offer that would tempt them to sell.
“After all, as it stands, Johnstone will be free to leave for no fee in May, so it’s hard to see any Premier League club paying big money for him now unless they really need a No 1 immediately and I can’t see a club that does.”

Seen it coming.
Valerien Ismael has put on a brave face when discussing this, but the truth is, we all saw it coming one way or another.
Talks have still gone nowhere regarding an extension, even a new deal that would include a favourable release clause should we fail to earn promotion.
Johnstone has been fragile at times with his distribution this season, but time after time, he makes up for it with phenomenal saves.
Should we earn promotion, having the England international as our number one would clearly be a huge boost.
It is still possible with the automatic promotion race wide open in the Championship, as things stand.
Hopefully, things can change and something can be worked out, but as things stand, Johnstone is leaving around five months’ time.
