West Brom move for new midfielder mooted – Steve Madeley

West Brom making a move for a new midfielder in the upcoming January transfer window has been mooted by Steve Madeley.

The Athletic journalist has insisted that now Robert Snodgrass is “out of the picture”, a new left-footer in the middle of the park would be smart.

Valerien Ismael currently has Alex Mowatt, Jake Livermore and Jayson Molumby available at The Hawthorns.

Writing in his Transfer Mailbag for The Athletic, Madeley shared where else we can expect business to take place possibly next month.

“Elsewhere, I’d be surprised if they don’t look at left-footed midfielders to deputise for and compete with Alex Mowatt, given that Robert Snodgrass is now out of the picture,” he wrote.

“But I think if they can only get the right centre-forward, they’d be reasonably happy.”

Strange.

Something must have happened behind the scenes for Snodgrass to have fallen down the pecking order.

Ismael was using the experienced midfielder, but since that horror show at Fulham a couple of months ago, the mood appears to have changed.

Whether the duo have had a falling out at the training ground, we can’t imagine the Scotsman being with the Baggies past next month.

That would leave options even lighter in midfield, with choices limited as they are right now, as we saw with Taylor Gardner-Hickman playing in midfield at Coventry.

A new striker is an essential next month, that is for sure, but no one would turn their nose up at another midfielder arriving through the doors either.
