Alan Nixon delivers latest update on West Brom target Callum Lang
The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has quashed rumours of West Brom showing interest in Wigan Athletic forward Callum Lang in January.
According to a report from the Express and Star, the Baggies have turned their attention towards the 23-year-old as they look to solve their goalscoring crisis.
West Brom currently sit fourth in the Championship table, and they are aiming for automatic promotion this term.
When Nixon on asked on Twitter to provide the latest update on Lang, he said – “There isn’t”, suggesting there’s no interest from the Baggies, as of now.
Need for a striker
The Baggies have struggled to find the net regularly this season, managing just 30 goals in 23 games.
Lang has been in superb form in 2021/22, managing 11 goals already for the Latics.
West Brom are reportedly interested in signing Orlando City striker Daryl Dike [90 min], which shows where their priorities lie at the moment.
Lang would certainly be a good option for them. He can play as a striker as also as a right-winger, and his versatility would come in handy for the side.
However, everything boils down to finance, and that is where the situation at West Brom is a bit complicated.
They have a bloated squad with players on high wages, and it’s unlikely they could add one or two players at the moment.
Having said that, they have hardly spent anything in the summer window, and they should have money to spend in January to bolster the squad.
