Carlton Palmer: Daryl Dike loan will be perfect for West Brom

Carlton Palmer has told Give Me Sport that Orlando City striker Daryl Dike would be a perfect loan signing for West Brom ahead of the January transfer window.

90min recently reported that the Baggies are looking to snap up the 21-year-old on a temporary basis, but they face stiff competition from almost six Premier League clubs for the U.S.A international.

Dike impressed under Valerien Ismael during a loan spell at Barnsley last season, and with the Frenchman eyeing a reunion at The Hawthorns, Palmer reckons that could be a great move for the Championship outfit.

He told GMS: “Dike will fit the bill. He did fantastically well at Barnsley under Ismael. He is now at an MLS club, but the MLS season is about to finish.

“So, it’s a perfect example for them to do a loan. That fits into West Brom’s sort of situation with the money side of things, that they take him on loan till the end of the season.”

Solid

Dike has 10 goals in 18 league appearances for Orlando City this year after bagging nine goals in 19 Championship games at Oakwell in the second half of 2020-21.

He has proven that he can find the back of the net regularly, and West Brom could do with such a player.

The Baggies were held to a goalless by Barnsley last time out, and the fact that they were not able to score in five of their last nine games speaks volumes.

West Brom will need to get in striking reinforcements for the second half of the campaign to bolster their promotion chances, but whether they can land Dike remains to be seen.

Orlando would be open to selling him as opposed to agreeing another loan deal, and should one of his Premier League suitors show them the cash, Ismael’s side could miss out.

West Brom

He is definitely not their only striking target, but he is probably the best they have been linked with.

Given that he knows exactly what the Frenchman wants, he would be perfect for them, and owner Lai Guochuan may need to bring out the chequebook next month.
