West Brom forward Callum Morton set to join Peterborough in January

West Brom striker Callum Morton is set to join Peterborough in the January transfer window, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

The 21-year-old striker joined Fleetwood Town on loan in the summer transfer window from Albion.

It seems, his loan spell has been cut short, and he will now join Championship rivals Peterborough, although it’s unclear whether it will be a loan deal or a permanent move.

Crook broke the news on his personal Twitter account (31 December): “West Brom forward Callum Morton [is] set to join [Peterborough]. [He] has been on loan at Fleetwood.”

Good move for Posh

Morton will be a good signing for the struggling Championship side.

The youngster emerged through the youth ranks at the Hawthorns, but he is yet to make a senior appearance for the Baggies.

He has previously spent loan spells at lower leagues at Braintree Town, Northampton Town, Lincoln City and Fleetwood Town.

Morton has scored 23 goals in his short career so far. For Fleetwood, he has scored seven goals in 22 games in all competitions. He is a fantastic player, full of energy with an eye for a goal.

He impressed during his loan spell for the Cobblers (8 goals in 12 games), and his mobility and dynamism upfront will definitely help Posh. However, his lack of goals at League One could be a big concern.

Slaven Bilic hailed him as a “special” player, but it seems his future lies away from the Hawthorns at the moment. It should be a good move for all the parties involved.

In other West Brom news, Carlton Palmer has claimed a former Baggies hero could be a January transfer option.
