Warnock mocks Robinson in West Brom FA Cup defeat v Brighton
Stephen Warnock mocked Callum Robinson after the West Brom forward almost missed his goal against Brighton on Saturday.
Robinson, 26, scored his sixth goal of the season in the 47th minute to put the Baggies ahead after a surging run by Karlan Grant.
Cedric Kipre was sent off in the 69th minute, allowing Brighton to score to equalise in normal time and score again to win the match in extra time.
Robinson almost fluffed his chance at goal though, leading to Warnock having a joke about how awkward the Ireland international made things for himself.
“They’ve done well,” said Warnock, as shown in a clip on the Match of the Day Twitter account on Saturday.
“I think one thing you will say against Brighton is that they can leave themselves exposed at the back, they do have that vulnerability at times.
“Callum’s an ex-teammate of mine at Aston Villa and he nearly does his best to miss this, doesn’t he?
“It goes in though, good finish.”
Up until Kipre’s red card with 21 minutes to play, West Brom were probably the better team.
While the first half was unbearable to watch for the handful of home fans who made their way to The Hawthorns, the second half was a lot better and way more end-to-end.
But yet again, fans will be left feeling as though if they had a proper goalscorer up front, Valerien Ismael’s side would have held a better advantage before Kipre’s mindless red.
Daryl Dike has, of course, joined the Albion from Orlando City and there’s a lot of hope for the USA international to hit the ground running.
In our last 12 games, we’ve scored just seven goals – and had six red cards – and that shows how woeful Ismael’s attackers have been in front of goal.
Dike had a decent record at Barnsley last season and was superb in the MLS when he returned to Orlando in the summer.
Let’s hope and pray that he can score the goals to potentially get the Baggies in the top-two but there is a lot of pressure on the young man to deliver in a side devoid of finishers.
In other West Brom news, this star man could have played his final game for the Baggies.
