Peterborough chief 'confident' in signing West Brom ace Morton in summer
Peterborough United owner, Darragh MacAnthony, is ‘confident’ in signing Callum Morton permanently from West Brom.
The Albion youngster joined Peterborough on loan today (January 13) with a deal that will keep the 21-year-old at the Weston Homes Stadium until the end of the season.
Morton was ready for a new challenge having scored seven goals in 22 appearances in the first half of the season whilst at Fleetwood Town.
Responding to a fan who questioned the signing, the Posh owner expressed his views on his personal Twitter account: “Yep he suits a diamond as a serious presser.
“Also [could] be a good chance for us to assess his fitness.
“Confident if all goes well, we can sign him in the summer.”
One for the future
This is a good deal for everyone involved. The Posh are in dire need of a goal scorer as they look to avoid relegation from the Championship.
A player with the energy, ambition and ability to finish like Morton does will be a great addition to their squad.
The 21-year-old deserves his shot in the Championship after he climbed his way through the leagues with loan spells at Braintree Town, Northampton Town and Lincoln City.
Morton hasn’t appeared for the Albion during his time at the Hawthorns and even with the Posh owner confident of retaining the striker in the summer, a move back shouldn’t be ruled out.
He has shown he has the quality to play in the Championship by earning this move and if he continues to impress at Peterborough, Valerien Ismael might take notice.
He is certainly one for the future, something West Brom should consider before making any definitive decisions regarding his future. Something that could also be considered through various contract clauses if he does depart.
