West Brom signing Daryl Dike hailed by star mentor Nani

New West Brom arrival Daryl Dike has been tipped to become a “top player” if he continues on his current path by former teammate Nani.

The ex-Manchester United star became a mentor to the Baggie’s new American striker at Orlando City and believes his willingness to learn will be key to success.

The Portuguese international told The Athletic: “I’ve always said he has his natural qualities.

“He has time to improve his game much more but if he continues with his feet on the floor, like he’s been doing until now, he is doing great. He’s been improving. He’s been listening. We’ve been talking. He comes to me and then he comes to me again, and I like that.

“That’s what I like because when I was young, I was very humble and listened to the older players, and that helped me a lot. So I know if he continues to do that, he will be a top player.”

Exciting arrival

The January signing’s potential at the Hawthorns is a very exciting prospect for West Brom fans, having already proven his ability to find the net in the Championship during a loan spell at Barnsley.

The USA international scored nine times in the league for the South Yorkshire side, and has scored three for his national side.

Picking up where he left off and making a decisive contribution to Albion’s challenge to get straight back to the Premier League would be a great start.

The potential step up to the top level will be an entirely different challenge, but if the words of Nani, who won four top flight titles in Manchester as well as a Champions League, are anything to go by Dike has the tools to make it.

He appears to be eager to receive advice from players who have been there and done it, so if he is able to take on their expertise and implement it in his own game then he could develop into a real talent.

Karlan Grant and Callum Robinson are currently the main scorers for West Brom and have got the club sitting fourth in the table, so Dike will be looking to add to that and cement at least a spot in the playoffs.

In other West Brom news, this duo have returned from loan after struggling for game time.
