Dara O'Shea returns to full training, set for Under 23's game this month - report

West Brom defender Dara O’Shea is back in full training and could return to action later this month for the PL2 side according to Valerien Ismael.

The Republic of Ireland defender broke his ankle on international duty back in August during a defeat to Portugal and has been unavailable ever since.

That followed an impressive start to Championship life, scoring against Bournemouth and Sheffield United after starting on the right of a back-three.

Now Ismael, who was talking during his pre-match press conference [Birmingham Mail] ahead of the weekend game against QPR, has revealed that he is back in full training and says he should feature for the reserve team this month before returning to first-team action.

“He’s back in full team training now,” he said.

“He will need maybe another couple of full weeks with the squad and some games with our PL2 side to get the confidence and match fitness back. We are really pleased. It’s great for Dara.”

The return of O’Shea is a huge boost to the Baggies, who have seen their form turn sour in recent weeks with just two wins in their last ten games and none in their last four.

Cedric Kipre has filled in admirably in O’Shea’s absence but the experience that O’Shea brings is something that West Brom have really missed.

Ismael’s system is built upon defensive solidity and structure, and while West Brom’s defensive record is very good this season you can only imagine how much better it would be had ‘warrior‘ O’Shea been fit throughout.

The manager has urged caution for his return to action so expect him to be eased back in, but by the end of the month he will likely have returned to action for the PL2 side and then can start to look towards a return to Championship football.

The home game against Preston on January 26th could be ideal to return, or the away game with Millwall days later on the 29th. Either way, West Brom should be buzzing to have him back.
