Kyle Bartley a doubt for West Brom clash with QPR
Kyle Bartley is a doubt for West Brom when they face Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, having struggled through the week, according to Joe Chapman.
The Birmingham Live journalist reports that the potential absence of the defender contributes to a lack of availability at the back for manager Valerien Ismael.
New signing Daryl Dike is set to travel for the game and may feature, but is not expected to start.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, Chapman wrote: “Bartley must be considered a doubt, has struggled this week. Albion so thin on the ground at the back.”
West Brom have not won in their last four matches, a run that includes three league matches and an exit from the FA Cup, and face a QPR side who have won their last two Championship matches and advanced in their cup game.
The Baggies have also received three red cards in their past two games so manager Ismael will be hoping that some control returns at Loftus Road.
The potential absence of Bartley adds to the suspension of Cedric Kipre after one of those sending offs, and Dara O’Shea working his way back to full fitness.
Semi Ajayi has barely featured this season but the opportunity for him to come in is also missed as he is now on international duty with Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations.
While the situation at the back will be causing stress for the manager and the fans, a strong start from new signing Dike would go along way to distracting them.
The USA international may not be set to start but there will be hope that he can open his account at West Brom early as possible.
In other West Brom news, the club have reportedly made an approach for this Serie A man.
