Verdat Muriqi's relationship with Lazio broken, door open for West Brom
West Brom transfer target Verdat Muriqi has unfollowed current club Lazio on social media as he closes in on a transfer, report La Lazio Siamo Noi.
The report says that the Baggies face competition for the Kosovan from Hull City and Leeds United, as well as potential interest from Turkey.
A transfer is now believed to be imminent as the striker is apparently “the first name on the list” of players on the way out of the Serie A club, and the relationship between the two sides is “reduced to a minimum”.
The player unfollowed his current employer on both Instagram and Twitter so it appears a move is close.
The right target?
Although the 27-year-old is available it is less clear whether a transfer to the Hawthorns is what the club actually needs.
The Baggies recently brought in USMNT forward Daryl Dike, and already have Callum Robinson and Karlan Grant at the club.
The latter pair currently lead the scoring charts this season with six and nine goals respectively, while the new American signing has proven his ability to perform in England by netting nine league goals during a loan spell at Barnsley.
Muriqi on the other hand does not have experience in England and has struggled in Italy, scoring only a single Serie A goal across a season and a half so far.
It may be a case of simply being in the wrong environment for the Kosovo international as he has proven to have a decent strike rate for his country, average slightly under a goal every other game after scoring 18 times.
He also performed well in a single season playing at Fenerbahce, registering 15 league goals, so there appears to be quality there, but his most recent move shows that is not guaranteed to shine through.
In other West Brom news, another club’s owner is confident of signing this Baggies man.
