West Brom loanee Josh Griffiths will remain at Lincoln City

Michael Appleton has confirmed that West Brom loanee Josh Griffiths will remain at Lincoln City until the end of the season.

The deadline for a Hawthorns call back has passed for the Baggies meaning the 20-year-old will have to stay at the LNER Stadium.

Griffiths is “growing every game with confidence” at Lincoln and continues to add to his experience gained when previously on loan at Cheltenham Town.

Mark Whiley took to Twitter to say: “Michael Appleton confirms that Josh Griffiths will remain with Lincoln City for the rest of the season.

“His recall deadline has passed.”

The right decision

Being on loan at Lincoln will do Griffiths the world of good. They find themselves 18thin League One and being one of poorer teams in terms of quality will give the 20-year-old plenty of work to do.

The main thing for a goalkeeper his age is to play games, make saves and grow in confidence and Lincoln is the perfect place to do that. There isn’t a huge pressure on their goalkeeper as they struggle with form meaning he can focus on doing his best for the team.

The Baggies would have made this decision rather than the deadline simply passing them by.

There was speculation of a recall for the youngster amid rumours of a departure for Albion’s number one, Sam Johnstone. But this never came to fruition with the Albion number one staying at the club which overall, worked out for the best.

Griffiths has a bright future ahead of him and seeing out the remainder of the season at Lincoln will only help him on his journey.
