Journo shares eye-opening update on Johnstone’s West Brom omission

West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was left out of the Baggies squad for Wednesday’s game against Preston and Joseph Masi has provided an update.

The Express and Star journalist shared via his personal Twitter account that the reason for his omission wasn’t to do with any transfer speculation.

There was no other reason given however with Joe Chapman, Birmingham Live, claiming injury and COVID were also not reasons for his absence having served his three-match ban following a red card against Cardiff.

“So the big news is Johnstone not in the squad. I understand it’s not transfer related. Mowatt does return…” Masi said.

Alex Mowatt did return from suspension he received in the same game but Johnstone remained out in the cold.

Worrying times

This is not good for the Baggies as Johnstone, an England international is one of, if not the best goalkeeper in the division and his ability commands a place in the side.

But Ismael has stuck with the stand-in David Button who has done nothing wrong whenever he has been called upon.

Whether that is a vote of confidence to Button, one of the best number two ‘keepers in the country, or a message to Johnstone, no one knows but there has to be a reason for his complete omission.

If West Brom are serious about gaining promotion, Johnstone has to play whenever he is available as he has the capabilities to win games on his own.

his enormous reach out-stretches anyone else in the Championship and he is a big miss to the Baggies whenever he doesn’t play, providing a major boost to the opposition.

Whatever is afoot at the Hawthorns, must be sorted as soon as possible because they cannot afford any underlying problems to disrupt their promotion charge.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies want to sign this humungous striker before the January deadline.
