Andy Carroll cleared to make West Brom debut vs Millwall
Andy Carroll has completed his move to West Brom on a free transfer and is free to make his debut for the club against Millwall, the club have confirmed.
Carroll emerged as a shock target for the club following the hamstring injury suffered by Daryl Dike, and underwent a medical this morning.
The club have now confirmed that the deal has been completed and he is officially a Baggies player, meaning he can play against Millwall on Saturday at the New Den.
Carroll spent the first half of the season with Reading, but saw his contract expire earlier this month and he opted not to re-sign immediately to look at his options.
He scored twice in eight appearances for the Royals, but has now joined on a deal until the end of the season.
Double-edged sword
The signing is obviously a positive thing for West Brom at this point in the season, considering they have massively struggled for goals.
With Dike out injured they were back to square one in terms of their transfer window, so bringing in Carroll so quickly and without spending any cash is good business.

However his own injury record is far from exemplary and his goal record is hardly the best either, which doesn’t look good for West Brom.
The Baggies have scored just 34 goals in 28 games this season and their poor form has seen them drop to fifth and on the verge of falling out of the playoff spots.
Valerien Ismael needs Carroll to hit the ground running or help the rest of the attack to click on the goals front, or his job could be cut short very soon otherwise.
