Kevin Phillips: Andy Carroll has huge West Brom opportunity after ‘Amazing’ Daryl Dike blow
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has insisted that Andy Carroll has the perfect opportunity to prove himself at West Brom as he closes in on his arrival.
The ex-Baggies talisman admitted it was “Amazing” that something so bad could happen to Daryl Dike after the ecstasy of him making his debut.
John Percy reported this morning that Carroll was set for his medical ahead of a deadline-busting move to The Hawthorns.

“It’s a massive blow,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“When you’re under pressure anyway, to lose a player that you have high hopes of, for him to be missing now for 11 games, by the time he comes back, the season is nearly over, the finishing line is in sight.
“It is a huge blow, West Brom need to score goals, they need that goalscorer, they’re all hoping he would be that. It’s just amazing that when things aren’t going well in football, another thing props up.
“They need to find a way to get someone else in, there is an opportunity for someone to step up now.”

This isn’t the most glamourous of signings, but it is one that comes at a desperate time for the Baggies.
Carroll has been linked with clubs up and down the country since his deal at Reading expired, even some from the Premier League.
With Dike now out for 11 games, the colossal forward could get an extended run in the side, and it is time for him to prove this signing was a brilliant move.
