Ron Gourlay in talks with Steve Bruce on Wednesday to hire him as new West Brom manager

Ron Gourlay has held talks this evening to hire Steve Bruce as the new West Brom manager, according to John Percy.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday (2 February), The Telegraph journalist reported that Albion’s new chief executive has been in discussions with Bruce, 61, and a decision is expected to be made on Valerien Ismael’s replacement tomorrow (Thursday).

It is understood that an 18-month contract has been offered to the former Newcastle, Aston Villa and Birmingham manager.

Done and dusted

We’d be shocked if Bruce isn’t the next West Brom manager.

Albion have to be credited for moving as quickly as they have done since Valerien Ismael’s sacking was announced on Wednesday (2 February).

There’s another week to go before the next game against Sheffield United next week so there’s plenty of time for a new manager to be bedded in and to get familiar with the squad.

It’ll be a tough job for Bruce to get this team promoted because they’ve been so poor this season.

West Brom

As it stands, we’ll just be pleased if Bruce is able to keep the side in the Championship’s playoff positions and at least oversees an improvement in the club’s performances and ability to score.

Bruce isn’t known for his attractive football but he’s a proven Championship promotion winner.

There seems to be a plan in place to get the Baggies promoted next season, based on the fact it’s an 18-month deal.

In other West Brom news, an ex-Baggies midfielder has reacted to Ismael’s sacking.
