Kevin Phillips: West Brom may assess Steve Bruce tenure in summer

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips has insisted that West Brom may assess their manager situation with Steve Bruce in the summer.

The ex-Baggies talisman has admitted that the immediate goal is to get that new manager bounce and reaction to bring positive results back to The Hawthorns.

John Percy has reported that Bruce has signed an 18-month deal with the Albion, one which has a break clause in the summer.

West Brom

“I would say so,” he exclusively told West Brom News.

“Again, it’s amazing how things work out in football, one minute he left Newcastle, saying he’ll probably retire, but as he said at the end of it, you can never say never.

“I think, if all parties are concerned, if they get this season out of the way, they can assess it in the summer, it’s about getting that new manager bounce and reaction from everyone at the football club to try and get results.

“We’ve seen they have the players to do it, they just need a system to do it and there’s no one more than Steve at doing that.”

West Brom

This is smart for all parties, with only one goal in mind.

West Brom need promotion back to the Premier League, it is that simple, and it was slipping away far too quickly under Valerien Ismael.

Bruce will come in, have a crack at adding another promotion to his belt, and if he doesn’t do it, will likely leave in the summer.

If the Baggies secure promotion, why wouldn’t Bruce want to stick around for another crack in the Premier League?

In other West Brom news, an ex-Albion midfielder instantly reacted to the news of Ismael’s dismissal on Wednesday.
