Steve Bruce ‘quietly confident’ in West Brom promotion push
Steve Bruce is still “quietly confident” that West Brom can get to where they want to be despite their poor run of form under the new boss.
One win in their last ten Championship games sees the Baggies sitting 11th in the Championship table.
However, with plenty of football left to play and key players to return, Bruce believes his side can turn things around.

He told Express & Star: “If we can stay in there and one or two get back fit, I am still quietly confident that we can get where we want to be.
“There is nothing like a bit of momentum especially if you hit it at the right time. In this division it is so tight, you see the results and you see what happens.
“QPR were going great and suddenly they’ve dropped points. It’s the Championship but if you can hit a bit of momentum at the right time let’s hope we can go on a bit of a run when we need to.
“If you can get on a roll at the right time anything can happen. There is always one team that comes from nowhere. There are seven games in April. There is still a long way to go.”

Slim hope
Slowly but surely the optimism surrounding West Brom’s promotion push is fading. Everyone knew Bruce had a tough job on his hands but maybe the fans didn’t realise the severity of the task Valerien Ismael’s successor had on his hands.
These players are awful, and any manager would struggle to get them playing in harmony which poses the question: was Ismael actually the problem or was it in fact these players?
There is certainly a case for both and the Frenchman’s soul-destroying style of football in particular the lack of creativity has seemingly forced these players down a hole. It is almost as if they have forgotten how to play football and Bruce has to teach them all again.
The finger can’t be pointed at the former Newcastle United manager. He has been open and honest since taking charge at the Hawthorns which makes it very clear to see what the issues are, and it isn’t him.
He needs time with these players, time to bring some in and hopefully the ones returning from injury can provide him with a mid-season boost.
