Andy Carroll admits ‘massive week’ for West Brom promotion charge

West Brom striker Andy Carroll has admitted it is a “massive week” for Albion in their last-gasp promotion push under Steve Bruce.

Albion host table toppers Fulham tomorrow (March 15) and travel to Bristol City on the weekend for two games that will shape their playoff hopes.

The former West Ham striker hailed the Baggies comeback against Huddersfield claiming it is proof his teammates are still fighting for the top six.

“When we went down 2-0 the fight was there, we didn’t give up,” Carroll told Express & Star.

“It just proves that the lads still want it. We fought back and got the point that we needed. We walked off the pitch with our heads held high. And on another day, we could have got all three points.

“We had a few chances from the ball coming into the box and it pinballed around in the area, but it wasn’t to be.

“We have taken four points from the last two matches and we have another two games this week before the break. It is a massive week and we still haven’t taken our eye off where we need to be.”

Still hope?

If West Brom are serious about their promotion push they have to start winning games, starting with the almighty task of beating league leaders Fulham tomorrow night.

Of course, Bruce and the players aren’t going to give up. There is still a little glimmer of hope and the Albion players will cling onto that to not only give them that extra drive but for the fans.

However, the supporters can see that the promotion push is very unlikely. The Baggies sit as low as they have in a very long time, down in 14thin the Championship with a lot of teams standing in the way of sixth place.

Even if Albion do win all of their games, they are reliant on other teams dropping points which makes it even more difficult.

Bruce will continue to push until the end of the season. He still needs to find out a lot about this team in order to fix it for next season. He will have to do an autopsy of the squad in what little time is left of the season in the hopes of finding the right answers for the next campaign.

Four points in the last two games does offer a glimmer of hope so let’s see what the man with the most Premier League promotions can do.
