Kevin Phillips: Steve Bruce had nothing to lose with West Brom change to two strikers
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has insisted that Steve Bruce had nothing to lose when changing his West Brom system to introduce two strikers.
The ex-Baggies talisman believes that the change will have thrilled fans, with form taking a turn for the better too.
Bruce has now seen his side take seven points from a possible nine, with big wins over Fulham and Hull sandwiched by that draw with Huddersfield.

“I think you get to a stage where you’ve got nothing to lose,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“You know you’re not scoring goals, why would you not try and get two players on the pitch that can put the ball in the back of the net? So, only time will tell if it works out, but the law of averages suggests you’ve got more chances of scoring goals when you have more scorers on the pitch.
“I would say that’s a positive move from his point of view, and I’m sure the supporters will be pleased with that.”

It has been a big change that has helped massively.
Bruce going with two up top has allowed an extra body in midfield too, something that has seen Taylor Gardner-Hickman shine.
Karlan Grant, Callum Robinson and Andy Carroll have all found the back of the net in the past week, meaning this change is really helping.
Will it push the Albion to the play-offs? Time will tell.
