Steve Madeley: West Brom may be looking at other managers beyond this season

Steve Madeley has insisted that West Brom may be keeping an eye on other managers who may be available in the summer.

The Athletic journalist responded after one Baggies fan questioned if the club will be closely following the contract situation of Tony Mowbray at Blackburn.

Steve Bruce’s future is not yet decided beyond this campaign, although he has done have the option for another year if all parties are happy.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Madeley shared if the Baggies will be looking at others moving forward.

“You’d like to think Albion would have an eye on any experienced manager who might be available,” he wrote.

“Obviously, they might well go with Bruce again, depending on how the season ends, but you should always have an eye on alternatives just in case.”

Change?

Much will depend on how the Baggies finish this season, but Bruce has already done the best that he can with what he has.

The squad collapsed under Valerien Ismael and tumbled midway down the Championship, and Bruce was tasked with turning it around.

Recent results have turned around with draws and wins, but that still hasn’t seen the Albion get closer to the playoffs again.

Mowbray has enjoyed a great season at Ewood Park, too, but he has also seen his side fall from automatic promotion challengers to nearly out of the playoffs themselves.

It would be interesting if Mowbray would return to The Hawthorns 13 years after leaving, and he has proved himself as a solid Championship manager.

Possibly, though, do the Baggies need to aim higher? Time will tell.
