Kevin Phillips shares if West Brom should hand new contract to Andy Carroll
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has insisted that West Brom have big questions to answer before offering Andy Carroll a new contract.
The ex-Baggies talisman believes that keeping the striker fit is critical behind his future, with Carroll being “unplayable” on his day.
Carroll signed a deal at The Hawthorns until the end of the season in January and is playing for his future at the club.

“I think he is well worth this contract until the end of the season,” he exclusively West Brom News.
“He has shown in his performances, he got that equaliser in the last knocking of the game [v Huddersfield]. He is a threat, and he has to play his strengths, which is clearly getting balls into the box.
“On his day, he can be unplayable, I suppose the only thing long term, would you commit to it when history suggests at some stage he will break down with an injury.
“It’s about getting the balance right, if the contract is right then I would imagine he is a huge asset. It’s just about keeping him on the training pitch and involved on matchday. It’s a big decision.”

No brainer?
At this moment in time, you would have thought that many would be happy for Carroll to stick around for another year.
Having said that, though, it depends if the striker was able to recover from the small knock picked up before this international break to return next week.
Steve Bruce is still not guaranteed to be at The Hawthorns next season, either, so his future will also need to be sorted.
Either way, a summer with big questions is quickly approaching.
