Kevin Phillips has agreed with Steve Bruce that Dara O’Shea is a future captain of West Brom in his career.

The ex-Baggies talisman insisted that you can see the leadership qualities of the Irish international every time he steps onto the pitch.

Bruce backed O’Shea after what he has seen in training every day, although chances have been limited recently.

“I would say so,” he exclusively told West Brom News.

“I wouldn’t disagree, he has worked with him day in and day out, and I don’t think he’s going to go against his judgement – Bruce has been there, seen it, done it.

“If he’s saying that, I think we’ve seen it from his leadership qualities on the pitch when he plays, he never gives up, always keeps going and he shows his captaincy qualities in a different way, I can definitely see it.”

This may have been Bruce’s way of backing O’Shea while he was coming back from a serious injury and not getting back in the side.

Experience has been backed ahead of him recently, with Kyle Bartley, Semi Ajayi and Matt Clarke favoured.

This will be a real motivation for O’Shea, and he will be doing everything it takes in training to get back into this side.
