West Brom defender Kean Bryan could be surplus to requirements in summer – The Athletic

West Brom defender Kean Bryan could be deemed surplus to requirements at The Hawthorns in the upcoming summer.

That’s according to Steve Madeley of The Athletic, who shares that the defence is one area that needs cutting down.

Bryan arrived on a free transfer this season but has missed the majority of the campaign through injury.

Writing in his latest piece for The Athletic, Madeley admitted that it may be hard to find a potential suitor.

“West Brom have an abundance of centre-backs so, even if Bruce or his possible replacement as West Brom manager persists with a three-man defence next season, the number needs to be cut,” he wrote.

“Kyle Bartley, Kean Bryan, Dara O’Shea and Semi Ajayi all enter the final years of their deals this summer and Bryan, who has not played since November because of injuries, might well be surplus to requirements.

“His lack of football might make it difficult to find a willing club to take him.”

Experience.

There is no doubt that the likes of Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi will be sticking around at the club, with their experience key.

Matt Clarke may return to Brighton after his loan spell, and Cedric Kipre has fallen down the pecking order – that leaves Dara O’Shea.

Does Bryan have a spot in the squad? It doesn’t look likely, to be honest, and the sooner he is moved on, the better.

We would be much better using one of our academy options as the fourth choice if we play only two in the middle.

This is just another example of a big transfer mistake, and hopefully, we can learn from all of this across the summer.
