Tottenham Hotspur confident of beating Southampton to sign West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly growing increasingly confident of beating Southampton to sign West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone.

According to the Sun, the England international is on the host of a number of Premier League clubs this summer.

The fact he’s set to be a free agent this summer makes the deal all the more palatable for them and Spurs believe that their race is now theirs to lose.

Destined to leave

The only way Johnstone would’ve stayed at the club was if they would get promoted to the Premier League.

Last season, he was one of the top flight’s best keepers and was unfortunate to be in a side that faced relegation.

He always had it in his mind that he wanted to play in Premier League next season, come what way.

And, by the looks of it, he appears to be getting his way as Spurs want to sign him.

He may be a backup to Hugo Lloris for one season but is then expected to take over from the Frenchman as the club’s number one.

Johnstone also has age on his side and playing for one of the big clubs in the country will automatically boost his chances of making Gareth Southgate’s England squad in the future.

In other West Brom news, Chelsea want to sign a Baggies ‘Dynamo’ and are hoping to seal the deal quickly.
