Alex Mowatt doubtful for West Brom clash against Blackpool

Alex Mowatt faces a race against time to prove his fitness for West Brom ahead of their Championship fixture against Blackpool.

Baggies boss Steve Bruce told the Birmingham Mail that the 27-year-old has picked up a minor problem in the lead-up to the game at The Hawthorns and is touch-and-go to make his starting line-up.

“I’ve got a concern over Mowatt, he’s got a bit of a knock – 50/50 I would have thought,” he told the paper (15th April).

The two sides face off in what on paper looks like a routine end-of-season fixture, with both likely to finish in mid-table obscurity.

Bad Timing

With the season rapidly falling away the last thing West Brom need is any injuries to key players.

Mowatt hasn’t always shined for the Baggies since his summer arrival but Bruce clearly likes him and he netted in the most recent home win against Bournemouth.

Profiligacy in front of goal has been the story of Albion’s season and losing a midfielder who is able to contribute goals from the centre of the park is less than ideal to say the least.

This season seems a write off now regardless, with the playoffs incredibly unlikely and a rethink needed in the summer if the club are to seriosuly challenge for promotion next season.

Mowatt was supposed to play a key part in making that happen, and whilst that might still happen, if this injury significantly hampers him for the run-in then it has written off any chances of it being this time around.
