Andy Carroll’s West Brom future uncertain after Steve Bruce comments

Andy Carroll may be set for a long summer as his future at West Brom is considered by manager Steve Bruce and the club’s board.

The 33-year-old has come in and been very effective for the Baggies even if he hasn’t started every game during his time in the Midlands for a variety of reasons.

He arrived at The Hawthorns in late January and has scored three times in the famous navy and white in 14 appearances but his future at the club is uncertain as Steve Bruce addressed the media.

“We have got to look at that situation,” Bruce said, as quoted by the Express and Star.

“I’m aware we have got big (Kenneth) Zohore and (Daryl) Dike so it’s about getting the balance right. I’ll have a look at it and see what we’ve got.

“But he (Carroll) has not done himself any harm. He has done well since he has been here and it’s great to see him fit. I’ve always said, when fit, Andy Carroll is a threat.

“I think it’s important in the next week or so that we sit down and make those big decisions which are never easy. We’ll see what develops.”

One more year

Bruce makes a very valid point in saying that both Dike and Zohore can do the job Carroll does but are they as good at it as the former England international is?

West Brom

There is an argument to say that Carroll is the best out and out target man in world football right now but he is only in the Championship due to injuries and probably a lack of pace.

He is still as good as he always was when he was at his best at Newcastle back in the day and there is another key reason why they should keep him over someone like Zohore.

If you were to put both players up for an imaginary auction, the Dane will always bring in a higher amount of transfer money and could fund two or three incomings if the right bidders engage.

In a modern world where money is paramount, it would be strange not to cash in on Zohore and hold onto Carroll for one more year while he has still got it.

In other West Brom news, we think the boss needs to backtrack or jump on the bandwagon over demands he recently made of his players.
