View: Ron Gourlay must pull Reading strings to pull off major West Brom transfer for John Swift

West Brom are already plotting for next season in the Championship as they look to get ready for a Premier League push.

Steve Bruce looks set to remain in charge at The Hawthorns, and there will no doubt be plenty of outgoings, as well as incomings.

One of the latest names to be linked with the Baggies is Reading playmaker John Swift, who will be available on a free this summer [Express and Star].

One man who will know Swift very well is Ron Gourlay.

The new Albion chief spent a couple of years at the Madejski Stadium and will have come into contact with the former Chelsea man.

With many clubs interested such as Leeds United, moving quick could be essential to get this one over the line.

Gourlay has to pull some strings in order to get in contact and make this a smooth transition with no bumps in the road.

Creativity.

That is exactly what Bruce will be crying out for from midfield.

Alex Mowatt has chipped in with the odd goal this season, but Jake Livermore and Jayson Molumby are not those types of players.

Imagine having Swift ahead of two of those names, with that free-roaming tactic that could see him embarrass others.

The 26-year-old has scored 11 goals and delivered 13 assists in his 38 appearances this season for a struggling Royals side, that is phenomenal.

Compare that to our best midfield, Mowatt, who only has four goals and two assists, and you see the big problem that needs fixing.

Gourlay could be the man to swing this in our direction, and we hope that he can get this one over the line.
