Kenneth Zohore set for West Brom lifeline after Steve Bruce comments after releasing Andy Carroll

Kenneth Zohore has been handed a West Brom lifeline by manager Steve Bruce after the boss confirmed he was one of the reasons for releasing Andy Carroll.

Carroll signed a short-term deal in January and has now been told he won’t be kept on into the new season as the club look to make another push for promotion next season.

But speaking about the decision to release Carroll, who has been in great form, he admitted that Zohore is expected to be fit in the summer and is in his plans going forward which means he didn’t need to re-sign the 33-year-old.

“We’ve got two centre forwards, one (Zohore) we’ve paid £8 million for and the other (Dike) £7 million in January,” he said, as quoted by Express and Star.

“They’re both number nines. Andy Carroll has done great for us and he’s in better nick now than he’s been for the last few years.

“He’s done tremendously well but he’s unfortunate that we’ve got two centre forwards who we hope this summer will be fit.

“I think I need to strengthen in other areas rather than at number nine.”

Wow

What an odd decision to make for Bruce, considering the performances of Carroll this year and the fact that Zohore has made just 23 appearances for t he club in three years.

The 28-year-old has suffered with injuries during his time at The Hawthorns and considering the injury record of Dike since joining too you’d think he’d want extra cover.

Their transfer fees shouldn’t come into consideration when building the squad for next season and Carroll would have been excellent and adequate cover for next season based off his recent performances.

Zohore is a largely forgotten figure at the club so the decision to hand him a lifeline when they should be looking to clear any deadwood out is bizarre.

He does however make a good point about wages and the fact a striker shouldn’t be a priority this summer when it comes to the transfer market, so this is a situation where he have to just wait and hope he’s right.
