Steve Bruce hints where West Brom need to add players in summer

Steve Bruce has got a massive task of rebuilding the West Brom squad in the summer after a poor campaign.

The 61-year-old boss has got a fair idea about his squad now, and he needs at least a summer transfer window to shape the squad to his own taste.

Bruce firmly believes Albion’s problems lie in midfield and attack.

“The back four that won promotion two years ago is still here,” said Bruce, as quoted by Express and Star.

“There is something to build on there. They have been there, done it and worn the T-shirt. They had a kicking in the Premier League, I understand that. But since then we’ve asked full-backs to play as wing-backs.

“And it’s not quite natural for them. They are not naturals when it comes to taking people on.

“And I think there in lies a problem that we have had. We struggle to score goals.”

Transfer hint

Bruce has said many times now that he will oversee a massive overhaul in the summer.

To be fair, that’s exactly what he should do. The current Baggies squad is unbalanced, and it’s his job to make the squad competitive.

To be fair, the club need players in almost every department. However, with money not available in plenty, the Baggies will have to wheel and deal to add new players.

Bruce will look to explore the free-agent market while could try to bring players on loan from Premier League clubs.

The defence is more or less compact but Bruce still could ship out one or two players. However, it’s the midfield and the attacking areas that need serious consideration.

With Andy Carroll set to leave at the end of the season, the Baggies should look to bring in another striker who is proven at this level.

He could return to his former club to lure Dwight Gayle who previously excelled at West Brom during his loan spell.

Likewise, adding players in the attacking midfielders is also key.
