West Brom prepared to invest in Kenneth Zohore after injury nightmare

Danish striker Kenneth Zohore has endured a torrid season with injuries at West Brom but Steve Bruce is ready to bide his time to get him fit.

The 28-year-old, along with January signing Daryl Dike, is likely to be heading for a pre-season training camp prior to the rest of the squad returning in an attempt to try and speed up his recovery.

He didn’t start a game in the Championship all season for the Baggies with just two substitute appearances to go along with his one Carabao Cup start at the start of the campaign under Valerien Ismael.

Bruce has been insistent that Zohore and Dike are going to be invested in after the club spent so much money on the pair.

“In Ken Zohore and Daryl Dike we have two number nines who the club have paid in the region of £20million for,” Bruce said, as quoted by the Express and Star.

“Zohore has had a terrible time here with injuries.

“However, it is a big summer ahead for him and the same goes for Dike. The club has been unfortunate with injuries. And Zohore now needs to get fit and stay fit.

“We have put a camp in place which will take place before pre-season for the guys who are struggling. Let’s hope they stay well.”

Time has past

The big Dane enters the final year of his contract in 2022-23 and if he keeps missing so many games through injury then there is no way he will get a renewal at The Hawthorns.

In truth, West Brom should be trying to sell him on while they still can before he heads for the exit door next summer without a transfer fee coming in for him.

To do that, however, he needs to be fit enough to complete a medical elsewhere so the Baggies’ hands are effectively tied into making this training camp happen.

Luckily, they needed to do it anyway to get Dike back in the mix so they are able to kill two birds with one stone but they can’t seriously be considering him to start next season.

Dike you can understand being 21 years of age and a new signing in the previous transfer window but this guy has been around for ages and he’s never looked to be the real deal.

It would be a real kick in the teeth to Karlan Grant after top-scoring with 18 goals this season and Bruce surely knows that only one of these two big lads can be the chosen one.

In other West Brom news, Steve Madeley has hailed the “best Hawthorns atmosphere” as the Under-23s beat Wolves in the Premier League Cup final.
