Steve Madeley shares West Brom transfer update as Steve Bruce eyes defenders
Steve Madeley believes that West Brom will want to sell at least one defender and sign at least another this summer.
According to the Athletic journalist, Steve Bruce is eyeing defensive reinforcements this summer as he aims to get the Baggies back to the Premier League.
Darragh Lenihan and possibly Matt Clarke have been tipped as likely signings, but in order to get them through the door, there will have to be players going the other way too.
Madeley wrote, via his personal Twitter account, “We know Bruce has centre-backs on his list of potential summer signings including Darragh Lenihan and possibly Matt Clarke but it would almost certainly mean outgoings needed first. Suspect he’d like at least one in and one out.”
To many fans, the idea of Bruce staying for another season is not a welcome one.
However, with the decision being made, it’s time for them to back the manager unconditionally and give him what he wants.
He knows how to solidify defences and get the most out of hard-working players who’ll buy into his philosophy.
Clarke is one such a player and it makes a world of sense to sign him permanently as he’s established himself as one of the best players in the team.
If Bruce deems Lenihan a good fit too, then, by all means, the hierarchy must try to get him through the door.
While many would love to see open and expansive play return to the Hawthorns, the team needs to start being efficient and get the job done in terms of churning out results sooner rather than later.
