Ben Foster sends message to Sam Johnstone as West Brom confirm exit

Ben Foster has delivered a message to Sam Johnstone after his West Brom exit was confirmed on Tuesday [24 May] with his contract expiring at The Hawthorns.

The former Baggies shot-stopper admitted that he couldn’t have wished for a better replacement after he moved on Watford and away from the midlands.

Foster has now left the Hornets and is looking for a new club, just as Johnstone currently is, although the latter has been strongly linked with the Premier League.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Foster delivered the message after the news was confirmed

“Proper shift that Sam, proper goalkeeper,” he said.

“Couldn’t have wished for a better replacement.”

Next in line?

One thing we have been spoiled by in recent years is a very good line of goalkeepers.

Foster, being followed through the door by Johnstone is quality business, and now it is time for Steve Bruce to do the same moving forward.

It currently looks like David Button will be the number one choice, although that instantly doesn’t bring as much hype and joy moving into another campaign.

Button was brought in for nothing as only cover to Johnstone, so instantly promoting him without much play time feels strange, but we have to get behind him.

Of course, there is plenty of time until next season and Bruce may decide after looking at his squad again that he needs a better option as his number one.

Could Foster be an option? We certainly wouldn’t say no if he could be persuaded to move back away from the capital after so many years down there.
