Steve Bruce makes bold West Brom transfer admission

Steve Bruce is confident he can take West Brom to a new height, provided he is given time to shape the squad to his own liking.

In the last 15-20 years, the Baggies have been trading in the Premier League or at worst they are a top level Championship club, but the last season proved to be a disaster for them.

Bruce admits that it needs a lot of work to rebuild this summer, while the club is operating on a shoestring budget.

“The squad here – a large part of it – has been together for a long time. It needs to be freshened up, changed,” said Bruce, as quoted by Sunday People (5 June, page 54).

“In a way, perhaps, like when I took Birmingham up… or Hull. We are not going to have a mountain of money to spend.

“We have to be shrewd. Wheel and deal and be ahead of the queue.

“There’s enough players out there to improve us and have a hungrier, fresher group than we have at the minute.

“Until now, we haven’t coped. Given a bit of time, we will.”

Wheel and deal

This is a crucial summer for the Baggies, and the squad needs a massive overhaul.

Bruce has been very honest with the situation. The experienced manager has been made clear that he won’t be given enough funds to carry out transfers.

This is where experience comes into play, and Bruce is the perfect man for the rebuild.

Ideally, the Baggies will look to make some loan deals for Premier League players who are either facing uncertain futures or need game time.

He may also look to explore the free agents. Bruce could also return to his former clubs like Newcastle or Manchester United to sign some of their exciting young talents.

The midfield is one area where Bruce will definitely be looking to bolster, and that’s why the link with Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury doesn’t come as a big surprise [The Sun].

Bruce is a keen admirer of the player, and wants to sign on loan, with a view to making it permanent. That could become an option if they can secure promotion to the Premier League next season.

In other West Brom news, Albion also want to sign this central midfielder who’s valued at over £15million.
