Steve Bruce wants West Brom to sign Leicester City ace Hamza Choudhury amid loan transfer development

Steve Bruce wants to sign Hamza Choudhury for West Brom this summer with Leicester City making the midfielder available for a loan, according to The Sun.

The newspaper reported via their live transfer blog on 4 June (10:00pm) that Leicester will let the 24-year-old leave on loan ahead of next season and Bruce is a “long-term fan” of the ex-England Under-21 international as he tried to sign him when he was in charge at Newcastle United.

It is understood that Leicester would also be willing to sell Choudhury on a permanent basis so the Albion might be able to strike a loan-to-buy deal for the central midfielder that would see him move to The Hawthorns permanently if the Black Country club wins promotion back to the Premier League.

Midfield depth

Albion have already strengthened their midfield since the end of the 2021/22 season by signing John Swift on a free transfer from Reading.

However, he’s more of an attacking midfielder and the Baggies still need to add some quality to their central options after terrible seasons for Jake Livermore and Alex Mowatt.

Jayson Molumby is also being signed on a permanent deal after spending the campaign on loan at The Hawthorns but we’re in big trouble if a player of his quality is considered to be a starter.

Choudhury has started to drop down the pecking order at Leicester.

The Loughborough-born midfielder played just 12 times for Brendan Rodgers’ senior side this season and out of those, he started just four times in the Premier League.

It’s no shock that Choudhury is no more than just a fringe player at Leicester due to the quality of players they’ve got but we feel as though the central midfielder could be an asset for the Baggies and for most teams in the Premier League.

He doesn’t pull any punches.

Choudhury is known as a tough-tackling midfielder who loves to get stuck in.

Albion do have players like that already but someone with a bit more technical quality than the likes of Livermore is desperately needed.

In other West Brom news, Albion also want to sign this central midfielder who’s valued at over £15million.
